LevelK strikes five deals for Klaus Härö's 'One Last Deal'

LevelK wraps up first round of sales for Klaus Härö’s Finnish drama One Last Deal during Toronto as Japanese distributor New Select and Australian Rialto picks up the film for local distribution.

After celebrating its World Premiere at TIFF in the Contemporary World Cinema section, One Last Deal has caught distributor’s attention. New Select and Rialto have respectively acquired Japanese and Australian and New Zealand rights to the Finnish drama. The film has also been sold to Taiwan (Swallow Wings Films Co. Ltd), China (DDDream), Worldwide Airlines excl. Taiwan & the Nordics (Encore Inflight Limited) and Brazil (Cineart Filmes).

Lauren Valmadre, sales manager at LevelK, said: “The warm reception to Klaus Häro's beautiful film ONE LAST DEAL at TIFF from distributors, audiences and the press has been overwhelmingly positive. With already a few major territories signed and more to come shortly, we are proud to be working with such an excellent film and esteemed team.”

The Golden Globes nominated director Klaus Härö is one of Finland’s most successful filmmakers. His latest film The Fencer (2015) was nominated for the Golden Globes and shortlisted for Oscars in 2016. The Fencer was also produced by Making Movies Oy. His first feature film Elina won the Crystal Bear in Berlin 2003 and Ingmar Bergman prize in Sweden 2004.

"I am truly overwhelmed with all the positive reactions and feedback we've received at TIFF. Being at the festival and kicking off the film with great Q&As and really good reviews feels just like winning an award. It is slowly starting to sink in that we’ve made a really good film,” said the director of One Last Deal, Klaus Härö.

One Last Deal follows Olavi, an elderly art dealer on the verge of retirement, who has always put business and art before everything, even his family. At a fateful art auction, an unmarked painting catches his attention, which he believes could be worth millions. Can he pull of this one last deal and leave the art world a success?

Renowned production company Making Movies have been nominated for the Golden Globes, shortlisted for the Oscars (The Fencer by Klaus Härö, 2016) and nominated for the European Film Award (The Good Postman by Tonislav Hristov, 2017). Making Movies also co-produced The Look of Silence, the Oscar-nominated (2016) documentary film by Joshua Oppenheimer.

Screenplay is written by Anna Heinämaa and the film is financed by IPR.VC, Finnish Film Foundation, Business Finland, YLE, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, EU Creative Media, KMS (The Church Media Foundation).
