LevelK at IDFA: International Film festival Amsterdam 2019
We are very excited to show one of our newest documentaries at this year's edition of IDFA.
Screening this year and having its international premiere is FAT FRONT which has been selected for the Frontlight section of the festival.
FAT FRONT is directed by Louise Detlefsen and Louise Unmack Kjeldsen and tells the story about four young Scandinavian women who have had enough of self-hatred and shame and proudly call themselves FAT. They demand respect and recognition in a diet-fixated society while struggling with their lack of self-worth. For too long they have put their lives on hold. Waited to buy clothes, go out dancing and find love - until the day they would become skinny. The day never came. But they found each other and the body positive movement. Now they set their rolls and wobbly thighs free and use their bodies as activist tools. With the provocative tone of feminism and an artistic approach to the natural beauty of the body, this film will change the way we view bodies. It is a film about shame and uprising but also a humoristic and heart-warming journey with a bunch of young, energetic women. Local release on October 10th.
Also screening this year and having its world premiere is our new documentary ASWANG (see the Screen Daily exclusive) which has been selected for competition in the First Appearance section at IDFA. ASWANG is directed by first time feature director and Berlinale Talents alumna Alyx Ayn Arumpac. When Rodrigo Duterte is voted president of the Philippines, he sets in motion a machinery of death to execute suspected drug peddlers, users, and small-time criminals. ASWANG follows people whose fates entwine with the growing violence during two years of killings in Manila.
Other interesting 2019 documentary titles we are representing are first up PHOTOGRAPHER OF WAR, an intense and intimate documentary feature about the world-renowned Danish war photographer Jan Grarup. Second up REDISCOVERY, a visually stunning documentary feature showing what happens when school children are having their classes in nature, and thus have to connect and understand their surroundings.
Our Sales and Acquisitions Manager Lauren Valmadre will be attending IDFA from November 24-27.
