THE PASSENGER which is selected as part of Fantastic 7 and world premiered at Sitges FF centers on a group of strangers sharing a van have their trip abruptly interrupted when the driver accidentally hits a woman hiking in the middle of the night. They decide to take her to the hospital, but on the way quickly learn that she is not in need of a hospital and that they shouldn’t have let her in at all. The film is starring Ramiro Blas (Vis a vis, Blackwod), Cecilia Suarez (The House of Flowers, Capadocia), Paula Gallego (Paquita Salas, El Oasis) and Christina Alcazar (Cachorro, Road to Santiago).
SAMUEL’S TRAVELS is set in a remote part of Eastern Europe, on the edges of a mythical forest. Here we follow Sam, a foreigner, far from home, who is searching for his biological father, when a minor road accident leads to a chance meeting with a pig-farmer’s daughter, who offers to help him. Her kind hospitality is however a smoke screen to capture him and make him a slave on the farm. Alone, unable to speak the language and chained up 24/7 with the pigs, he learns to adapt and starts gaining the confidence that might lead to freedom and true love.
ZALAVA (Winner of the Grand Prize and FIPRESCI Award at Venice International Film Critics' Week and Best Film at Fantastic Fest) is set in 1978, and centers on the inhabitants of a small village in Iran called Zalava who claim there is a demon among them. Massoud, a young gendarmerie sergeant, who investigates this claim encounters an exorcist attempting to rid the village of the demon. When he arrests the exorcist on charges of fraud, the villagers fear and anger escalates. Massoud and his love interest, a government doctor, soon find themselves trapped in a cursed house, surrounded by villagers who believe they are both possessed by the demon.
CHECKERED NINJA 2 is the follow up to the highly successful animation CHECKERED NINJA, which broke box office records and sold to more than 50 territories. This sequel is already well on its way at the local box office. In Checkered Ninja 2, we again follow Alex and the Checkered Ninja on a frantic hunt for the villain Phillip Eppermint. When Eppermint manages to evade a prison sentence in Thailand, Checkered Ninja comes back to life to team up with Alex. On their hunt for revenge and justice Alex and Checkered Ninja are swooped into a dangerous mission, where their friendship at times will be intensely challenged.
AS IN HEAVEN (TIFF Discovery, London FF, Busan selected) Winner of Best Director and Best Leading Performance at the Main Competition at San Sebastian FF, takes place on a farm in the late 1800s where an intense waiting begins when 14-year-old Lise's mother goes into a complicated labour, and Lise must prepare herself for a night that may change her life forever.
SPACEBOY (double Schlingel IFF award winner) starts with Jim, a gifted 11-year-old boy, arriving in a new town with his dad. At his new school Jim has to participate in a young scientist competition with his new classmate Emma, who he convinces to secretly build a real air balloon. Pursuing his father’s dream of going to space, Jim drags her into an adventure which brings them closer.
KARMALINK (the opening film of Venice critics' week and winner of Best Narrative Feature at Santa Fe IFF), is set in near-future Phnom Penh, where a teenage boy teams up with a street-smart girl from his neighbourhood to untangle the mystery of his past-life dreams. What begins as a treasure hunt soon leads to greater discoveries that will either end in digital enlightenment or a total loss of identity. World rights are available. We are handling international sales while XYZ represents North American rights.
HIVE multiple award winner, centers on Fahrije who has been missing her husband since the war in Kosovo, and along with their grief, her family is struggling financially. In order to provide for them she launches a small agricultural business, but in the traditional patriarchal village where she lives, her ambition and efforts to empower herself and other women are not seen as positive things. She struggles not only to keep her family afloat but also against a hostile community who is rooting for her to fail.
